Divination

At the serpents hollow near the Slavic holy lake - Gopło
Twin flower-named sisters, Roza and Lilla
Gather together to discuss the first’s
Vision of the end of Weneds’ tribe
„Ty mówisz – lecz twoja twarz jak księżyc smutna, choć jasna
Jak księżyc, umarłych słońce”
Harpers come and proclaim the advent of doom
King of the Weneds – Derwid and his sons, abducted and imprisoned
The younger daughter swears for her life to release her family but
Roza predicts ruin and no witchcraft can protect the tribe for she
Has the vision that in three days
The dead will resurrect to fight, and to be killed
Three times in a row during the war
The king will have two heads – one man’s the other of the dead
Martyrs will become tyrants, and conversely
Thunder will tear down the earth to reveal
The devilish rapture of ancestors
Zaprawdę powiadam Wam: „Nie czas żałować róż gdy płoną lasy”
Shall the Weneds believe the witch, they will die calm
She will survive as the one, to avenge them
Better than fire and pestilence
Better than an army of enemies
Better even than God

Invaders Demeanor

The dust hasn’t yet settled after the battle
King Derwid with his sons, chained like dogs and
Dragged into the presence of the lord invader
With a harp held tight by his chest
Missionary Gwalbert and his servant Ślaz arrive to convert
But see the carnage of their lambs
They hide in the skull crypt to punish themselves but
Princess Lilla comes to beg for help
To her trapped family in the roman tower
“If you accept the vows of chastity, I will try to help you”
Gwalbert informs the young woman in despair
She accepts it immediately and they leave
The servant sets the crypt on fire
In the great hall Derwid stands before Gwinona
He defends himself against her demands
After this trial they take him to dungeon to gouge his eyes out
While Lilla and Gwalbert break through guards to
Stand before her highness and beg for Derwid’s release
She tells him it’s too late as he has been mutilated
Guards bring him again to the hall
Lilla wants to wipe his blood with her long hair
She doesn’t believe a woman could do that to an old man
There will also be a contest for his life

The Witch and the Dead

Roza sings and burns corpses on the post battle ground
Missionary’s servant comes to her
She tells him to become an assassin and steal the magic harp
He takes the armor of a dying man to fool the guards
„Przed tobą płynie krwi bolesnej rzeka
Z tych trupów cieknie i płynie”
Meanwhile in the castle, Lech and his comrade
Discuss death of their warrior
Lilla suddenly enters the chamber
To beg for justice for her father
Gwinona’s sons – Krak and Arfon stone the old king
Lech and Lilla come, and Lech commands to release Derwid
The atrocious queen expresses her dissatisfaction
But proposes to hold the contest for his life
Which was promised before
„Trzaska w płomieniach kość
W czaszkach się warzy mózg”
Guards bring two prisoners – Lelum and Polelum
One of them has to throw the axe at their father’s head
If a hair is cut from the head they will be free
And if either does it three times in a row
Derwid will also be released

Serpents Bane

Warriors are impressed by the Weneds’ axe skills
Suddenly they hear Salmon’s trumpet
They recognize his shiny armor
Gwinona starts to regret her vendetta
They want to see his face but he refuses
Because of a spell that the witch put on him
On the field near the forest
Lilla and Her brothers cry over their fate
Lilla wants to return to the castle
To release her father and his harp in three days
Polelum won’t agree with their fortune
And wants to stay with Lilla forever
In the castle Gwinona commands to bring Derwid before her
She wants to know how Wened puts spells on things
He refuses to talk and predicts that she will die in three days
She orders to put him into serpents hollow
Daughter comes and asks for his fate
Unfortunately it has been sealed
She steals the harp and escapes

Lech is sure that the man in Salmon’s armor is an impostor
Then a runner proclaims that his second son awaits
On the other side of Gopło lake with just a hundred men
The king wants to help him and he doesn’t believe in defeat
On night watch Ślaz undercover sees a man before his eyes
It’s saint Gwalbert who wants to speak with Lech
Scary Ślaz persuades him to wear his armor and be on guard
While he wakes the master, then he leaves
Lech and Sygon come and want to test Salmon
He swore to be him but they recognize that he is changed again
Lech orders to put him in the hollow with Derwid
Sygon comes back and tells that serpents
Are seduce by the magic harp Lilla is playing
Gwinona commands to put Derwid and Sygon
Into dungeon and starve them to death
She is curious how Lilla will help them now
Knights got an order to exile her

Stabat Lilla Dolorosa
04:41
|

Lilla in despair begs to visit her father
She wears lilies on her forehead just like a dead virgin
Lech tries to persuade Gwinona to let her go to the dungeon
She accepts it and calls Gryf to take her there
„Nad tymi tłumy dwunastu harfiarzy
Nad harfiarzami straszna prorokini
Na samym szczycie ludzkiej piramidy
Błyskawicami gadająca”
Lech proclaims that Lechon is now Weneds’ slave
Gwinona gets furious and promises to kill herself if her son is dead
Proud husband vows to release him and slay a hundred in revenge
Suddenly Lilla enters the hall without the lilies on her forehead
She says that she fed her father and it means she
Rescues him the third time
And now Derwid should be free according to the agreement
Evil queen commands to bring Derwid and the harp locked in a chest
The king should choose if he prefers to take the harp or the daughter
He chooses Lilla, as is she comes back with Lechon alive
She could also take the harp

Wheel Of Misfortune
04:17
|

At the serpents hollow Roza is singing
Runic invocation to the dying sun
She has a vision of the final battle between Weneds and Lechits
All the nightmares come true and tribe’s fate is inevitable
Twelve commanders come to speak with her
They want to know if they have any chance to win
She whispers to harpers the sad truth but
Tells commanders that if Derwid plays a triumph song on the harp
Victory will come on Lechits’ wings of death
They want a proof and she brings twin brothers to sacrifice
But it’s not enough – she brings Lechon – Lech’s son
She realizes he is miserable and chooses a dove instead
Then Weneds’ knights bring Ślaz before Roza
He admits that he saw tortured king Derwid and dead Lilla
Roza takes a hot dagger and puts inside Lechon’s heart in revenge

In the castle, Lech is preparing for the final battle
Gwinona, in mourning, bids farewell to her husband and knights
Then she stays only with the choir of virgins
Suddenly Lilla enters the chamber with the news that
A servant is waiting near the gate to trade the harp for her son
Gwinona gets furious and starts to strangle Lilla
After a moment dead Lilla falls to the ground
A choir of virgins starts to lament upon her corpse
Murderous queen decides to send the chest to Derwid
And wears an armor to join Lech’s army on the battlefield
Before the gate Ślaz demands the harp
Then the gates open and choir of virgins bring him the chest
With a statement that Gwinona kept the oath
He wears it on his shoulder and leaves to meet Derwid and Roza
When Lilla died all flowers withered and
Black veil covered the earth
Birds started to sing an elegy upon the land

The final battle starts between Weneds and Lechits
Thunder kills Lech’s horse before he swings at Derwid
Lelum and Polelum strangle Lechit’s knight – Sygon
Holy Gwalbert comes and wants to hold his funeral
In the holy wood Derwid sits on the stone throne
And waits for the harp
In the assistance of Roza and twelve harpers
Suddenly Wened and twin brothers come to inform the king that
Weneds’ people die one after the other and
They need his anthem be played
Then Ślaz brings the chest from Gwinona according to her promise
Roza opens the chest and sees dead Lilla’s corpse instead of the harp
Derwid wants to hold the hand of
The dead daughter but kills himself
Gwalbert and Ślaz meet and the monk wishes to baptize the dead
After Lech gets the news that Weneds killed Gwionona
He gets to the pile of Wened corpses and sends a warning
Roza stands on the top of corpses:
„Cóż! nie słuchacie? – Więc tą ręką trupią
I tym łańcuchem wzywam do walki Was
Napełnione piorunami burze
Aż prośbą piorun wasz nie wywołany
Wydrę przekleństwem”

Chmury
03:40
|

Do was, chmury,
Wzrok ponury
Skrą i łzami!
Sam na ziemi
Pod czarnemi
Chmur wiankami.
Jak duch trumny,
Smutkiem dumny,
Nad szmer domów,
Trzymam skronie
Tam - w koronie
Chmur i gromów.
Gdzie wam droga,
Chmury Boga!
Mnie weźmiecie.
Bo ja ciemny,
Mgłą tajemny,
Sam na świecie.
Tam! za wami,
Gdzie wichrami
Burza kręci,
Łzą do łzawić,
Do błyskawic
Skrą pamięci.
Lecę! błyskam!
Skrami ciskam,
Jutro zmarły.
Patrzcie na mnie,
Żyjcie za mnie,
Ludzie! karły!
Tu wam, ludzie,
Na ziem grudzie
Mogił grzędy:
Gdzie chmur droga
Z wichrem Boga,
Mnie tamtędy!
